COLCHESTER EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS (KX) utilized various radios, computers, and componets for dispatching. Our Main Console is knows as a "C-C-C", and as you can tell, it's been around for a few years! The C-C-C is equipped for two dispatchers, with 30 Channels per dispatcher.

Our COMPUTER AIDED DISPATCH (CAD) System was custom designed for us by HUNT COMPUTER DESIGNS, and is based on a FILEMAKER Database. The CAD system is accessable at 3 positions in the dispatch center, the managers office, and also by a secure off site process.

Our CAD System includeds the records management system, preplans, incident history, mapping, and many other features. This system is 100% DELL, and we've had great luck with it. VISUAL TECHNOLIGIES provides our network support.

KX utilizes MEDICAL PRIORITY DISPATCH for our Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) system. In 2004, all Public Safety Answering Points in the State of Connecticut were required to start EMD.

All KX dispatchers are certified by the State of Connecticut as Telecommunicators. Dispatchers also undergo various special training, including Law Enforcement Dispatch, Advanced Fire Dispatch, Suicide Intervention, Hostage Negotiation, Hazardous Materials, Incident Command and Management, and a handfull of other classes special for dispatchers.
